• Insertion of swab: The sampler holds the swab handle and gently inserts the swab head into the patient’s nasal cavity, slowly advancing along the nasal passage, usually reaching the position of the nasopharynx or middle turbinate. The specific depth depends on the patient’s age and nasal structure.
• Rotating collection: Stay in the nasal cavity for 15-30 seconds to allow the swab to fully contact the nasal mucosa, absorb secretions and cells, and then gently rotate the swab 3-5 times to ensure sufficient sample collection.
• Extraction and storage: Slowly remove the swab, taking care to avoid contact between the swab head and other parts outside the nasal cavity to avoid contaminating the sample. Place the swab into the sampling tube, break the handle at the break point, discard the tail, tighten the tube cover, and send the sample for testing in a timely manner.
