In the world of molecular diagnostics, the quality of your sample transport is the foundation of your test results. For PCR testing, the choice of Viral Transport Medium (VTM)—specifically whether it is inactivated or non-inactivated—can significantly impact both laboratory safety and the accuracy of downstream analysis.
At Huachenyang, we understand the critical balance between these two priorities. Our mission is to provide solutions that ensure absolute safety for handlers without compromising the integrity of the viral nucleic acid required for reliable qPCR detection. Here is how we bridge the gap.
Non-inactivated VTM functions primarily as a preservation solution. Its goal is to maintain the virus in a viable state, protecting it from environmental damage to keep the nucleic acid intact. While this preserves the viral structure, it also means the sample remains infectious, posing a higher risk to laboratory personnel during processing.
Inactivated VTM, on the other hand, is engineered to neutralize the virus immediately upon collection. By destroying the viral lipid envelope, it renders the sample non-infectious, drastically improving safety. However, the chemical agents used for inactivation can sometimes degrade the viral RNA, leading to the common industry concern: “Does inactivation affect my detection rate?”
This is the exact concern we designed our product to address. The key to our Huachenyang Inactivated VTM lies in our proprietary formulation, specifically our use of targeted lytic salts such as Guanidine Isothiocyanate.
Here is how it works:
Why This Matters for Your PCR Results
By using Guanidine isothiocyanate, we achieve the perfect equilibrium:
Integrity: The viral RNA remains intact, abundant, and ready for extraction. Because the nucleic acid is protected from the moment of collection, the Ct values in your qPCR remain reliable and representative of the original patient sample.
Safety: The sample is non-infectious, allowing for safe handling in BSL-2 laboratories without the need for immediate, high-level containment protocols.

While our inactivated VTM offers the best balance of safety and stability, we recognize that different applications require different tools:
At Huachenyang, we don’t believe you should have to choose between the safety of your team and the accuracy of your results. Our Inactivated VTM, powered by a precise lytic salt formulation, ensures that viruses are neutralized instantly while their genetic blueprints are preserved perfectly.
With Huachenyang, you can collect samples confidently, transport them securely, and amplify them accurately.
